How does the Billion Dollar challenge relate to dfree®?

The Billion Dollar Challenge is a key component of the dfree® strategy started by Dr. Soaries in 2005 that teaches people to live within their means without debt, deficits, and delinquencies. The Challenge provides you with an actionable step to start your journey towards financial freedom by first paying off your debt. dfree® provides the information and resources necessary to succeed at the Billion Dollar Challenge.

Account/Profile

1. How do I create an account?

All you have to do is click the Join Now button, and enter your username, e-mail address, zip code, and password. You will then be sent an email with a link to activate your account.

2. How do I edit my profile?

On the My Dashboard screen, under Account, select Edit Profile. Here you can make changes to your profile.

3. How do I change my email preferences?

On the My Dashboard screen, under Account, select Email Preferences. Here you can adjust when you receive email notifications.

4. How do I deactivate my account?

On the My Dashboard screen, under Account, select Edit Profile. Click on the red button, Deactivate My Account.

Debt Plans/Goals/Payments

1. What is a dashboard?

The dashboard is your personal homepage for the Challenge. You can access it by selecting the Mydashboard tab. Here you can view your progress, payments, and goals.

2. How do I enter my debt pay-down goal?

On the My Dashboard screen, select Manage my Goals and Debt Plan. Follow instructions to enter your goal of how much debt you would like to pay off, the type of debt, and by what date. Then click the add button. You can enter multiple goals in various categories (ie. credit card, student loan, mortgage, etc.)

3. How do I edit/delete a goal?

On the My Dashboard screen, under Payments, select the tab My Goals. Click the Edit button next to the goal you would like to change. Here you can make changes to your goal. You can also delete a goal by clicking on the Remove button.

4. Can I calculate how much I owe in interest on the website?

No, interest is not calculated on billiondollarpaydown.com. However, it is still important for you to know how much you owe in interest when paying down your debt. 5. How do log a payment?

On the My Dashboard screen, under Payments, click on Log a Payment. Enter the amount of your payment. Then select from the drop down menu, which debt this payment is for. Then click the button Log Payment.

6. How do I edit/delete a payment?

On the My Dashboard screen, there is a section beneath Your Progress called Payments. Select the tab Past Payments. Then click the Edit button next to the payment you would like to change or delete.

7. Can I actually make payments toward my account on this site?

No actual payments toward your debt can be made on this site.

Group/Subgroup

1. What is the difference between a group and a subgroup?

A group is comprised of members committed to paying down their debt together. A subgroup is used only for groups that have affiliates or chapters. For instance, if you have an umbrella organization like the NAACP, you would create sub-groups for each of the local branches.

2. Can I be a member of more than one group?

No, you can only be a member of one group.

3. Can I be a member of more than one subgroup?

No, you can only be a member of one subgroup.

4. Can other members of a group or subgroup view my debt goals and payments?

No, your debt goals and payments remain completely confidential.

5. How do I join or start a group?

On the My Dashboard screen, under Group, select Join or Start a Group

To join a group, type in the name of the group, and click on the Join Group button. The system will then send a membership request to the group manager.

To start a group, type in the name of the group. You will then have to complete a short form describing the type of group and the debt-pay down goal.

6. How do I join or start a subgroup?

Once you join or start a group, you will see a section called subgroup on your dashboard.  Click on Join or Start a Subgroup. 

To join a subgroup, type in the name of the group, and select on the Send Request button. The system will then send a membership request to the subgroup leader that he/she will have to approve.

To start a subgroup, type in the name of the group, and select the Request Subgroup button. The system will then send a request to the group manager that he/she will have to approve.   

If you are a group manager, you can also start a subgroup by going to the Group Administration page. You will see a section called Subgroups, where you can type in the name of the subgroup and assign a subgroup leader. 

7. What is a group manager?

A manager is the administrator of the organization and is responsible for approving all membership requests. He/she has the ability to view a list of all members, approve or deny membership requests, remove someone from the organization, and give manager privileges to another member. 

8. What is a subgroup leader?

A subgroup leader is the administrator of the subgroup and is responsible for approving all membership requests. He/she has the ability to view a list of all members, approve or deny membership requests, remove someone from the group, and give manager privileges to another member.

9. How do I leave a group?

On the My Dashboard screen, under Group, click on your group name.  You will then be directed to the group progress page. Underneath the progress bar, select the Leave this Group button.

If you are the only group manager, you are not permitted to leave your group until you assign management privileges to another group member. 

10. How do I leave a subgroup?

On the  My Dashboard  screen, under Subgroup, click on your subgroup name.  You will then be directed to the subgroup progress page. Underneath the select the Leave this Subgroup button. 

If you are the only subgroup leader, you are not permitted to leave your subgroup until you assign leader privileges to another group member. 

11. How do I post a message in the group/subgroup forum?

On the My Dashboard screen, under Forums, click on the name of the group or subgroup that you would like to post a message to. You will then be directed to the forum page. Here you can view current discussions or start a new discussion.
